Application Timeline

  • Application Period

If the recruitment has a set closing date, we'll likely begin scheduling interviews a week or two after closing.  For continuous recruitments, time frames may vary depending on the applicant pool and availability of the hiring department.

For a select few positions, a written assessment may be administered prior to the interview stage.

  • Interviews

Scheduled in coordination with our hiring departments, the City of Ukiah conducts panel interviews with representatives that are knowledgeable about the positions we're hiring for.

Some departments may elect to hold secondary interviews for those that pass the first round.  Secondary interviews are more of a conversation between the hiring department and candidates, giving both parties an opportunity to discuss the position and its expectations in more detail.

  • Pre-Employment Screening

Once a department has selected a candidate, a conditional job offer will be extended and a pre-employment screening process will begin.  This may include steps such as a Livescan screening, reference checks, and a basic physical.  Some positions, such as Public Safety-related classifications, may have a more in-depth screening process.

  • Job Offer!

For candidates that meet all the requirements of our pre-employment screening process, a formal job offer will be given.  So long as that is accepted, we'll then work on coordinating a start date!

  • First Day and Orientation

On a new hire's first day, they can expect to meet with our Human Resources team for their orientation.  We'll cover City policies, benefits, and other information pertinent to their new career!
